Before doing anything, you need to provide the exact model number (from the label on the underside of laptop) so we can find any drivers you are likely to need. i have recently done a system recovery on my pc. and you're correct, i am indeed not getting any error messages whatsoever, not on the startup nor the actual freeze. attempting a reformat thinking the drive is fine, shows that it cannot be formatted due to an "Unknown" error.

Did this only start happening AFTER you ran the recovery? i took it into geeksquad and my roomate told me he had never seen that damage before. often shortly after the computer fully booted. Proprietary software and hardware has it's pros and cons.
